24 May 2022 “I loved every minute of studying at the Swiss Hotel School. The best part was the fact that there were so many opportunities for practical training and experience as I’ve always been known to be someone that hates reading!
Through SHS, I had the opportunity to work at the Victoria Jungfrau Hotel in Interlaken Switzerland for my 6-month internship in 2nd year. A beautiful 200 bedroom five star property at the foot of the Jungfrau Mountain. I worked in all F&B departments of the hotel from banquets and room service to casual dining and silver service in the French restaurant. It was an amazing experience and that’s what opened my opportunity to travel more once I finished my diploma.
First year out of college I did another internship through Awesome Travel at the 500 bedroom Ritz-Carlton in Key Biscayne Miami. What a change from the snowy Swiss mountains! I chose to stay in F&B and I had the opportunity to manage the kids club and got some experience in the concierge club lounge as well.
I loved the company philosophy of the Ritz-Carlton so I decided to get my Italian passport sorted and try find a property in Europe to work in. This is what brought me to the green hills of Ireland a year later. I worked at the Powerscourt Golf and Spa Resort for almost 3 years starting as hostess and supervisor in the Gordon Ramsay restaurant (where I got to work with the man himself) and then moved to Front Desk as night manager and trainer of new employees. Living in Ireland also opened up the chance to travel Europe in my time off!
In 2014 I wanted to move back home and with no Ritz-Carlton down this side of the world, I had to find something else five star. I looked into the lodge industry and found a position with Ulusaba in the Sabi Sands as an Assistant Manager and fell in love with the bush! I never thought I would meet my husband to be there and today we have been managing five star lodges together in Botswana with Wilderness Safaris for almost 4 years.
I remember having to beg and plead to go study hospitality and once my parents gave in I just had to make them proud. The Swiss Hotel School made that possible for me, it opened up doors that I never imagined were there for me to go through. I’ve had a very prosperous career so far and I definitely have the Swiss Hotel School to thank for that.
They gave me the foundation I needed to exceed my goals in hospitality.”
