The Swiss Hotel School 2015 Graduate, Nontu Mabena
25 April 2023The Swiss Hotel School 2015 Graduate, Anthony Howes
26 May 2023I matriculated in 2012, and having taken Hospitality Studies as a subject in high school I knew that hospitality was going to be my life. Before writing matric finals I already had a picture of what my tertiary education would look like, as I was accepted in October 2012 to study at SHS.
I completed a 3-year Diploma in Hospitality Management in 2015. Being afforded the opportunity to study at SHS has truly been one for the books.
The theoretical knowledge gained from experienced lecturers in the field equipped me with the knowledge and know-how to execute my practical internships to the best of my ability.
During my 1st & 2nd years I worked in 4 and 5-star hotel establishments in the Kitchen, Food and Beverage, and Front Office departments. In 2014/2015 I was chosen to go to Davos, Switzerland and complete my long internship in Food and Beverage at the Morosani Schweizerhof, a 4-star superior hotel. This was truly an unforgettable experience. From serving Royal Highnesses and Honourable Presidents at a World Economic Forum meeting to experiencing a white Christmas. Most importantly gaining an experience that I still talk about today (5 years later) for which I am forever grateful.
Since graduating I have managed 2 guest houses. In 2018 I was head-hunted to be the Concierge for one of the biggest new developments in Sandton, the Capital on the Park (310 rooms, 600 pax conferencing). 8 months into the job I was promoted to a sister property, The Capital 20 West as a Guest Relations Manager. Another 8 months later I decided a change of scenery was necessary and I am now the Guest Relations Manager of The Capital Hotels and Apartments flagship property, The Capital Empire. I’m a proud employee of the fastest growing hotel group in South Africa. 10 Hotels in 10 Years. The Swiss Hotel School has helped me lay such a solid foundation in this rough and rewarding industry. I am the professional I am thanks to SHS.
