Professional Chef – Which knives are essential
12 January 2024A career in Hospitality Management or Culinary Arts is a smart global career move!
5 November 2024Swiss Hotel School shaped my path in ways I never expected. As a young student, I had always imagined a future in gynecology, only to realize that the sight of blood was not for me. Instead, I followed my passion for the hospitality industry.
After high school, I chose to attend the only college I applied to and was accepted at. My journey began with a whirlwind of experiences that led me to discover different cultures and cuisines. Switzerland became my first stop, where I delved into the remarkable world of kitchens. I quickly realized that my true learning came from immersing myself in the experience rather than just studying from books.
Moving on, I found myself working alongside chefs in Dubai, an experience that fueled my personal growth. The next chapter brought me to Cape Town, where I worked closely with home-based chefs, listening to their inspiring stories of perseverance and success.
My journey took an unexpected turn as I ventured into food manufacturing and eventually opened my own restaurant. Through these ventures, I learned the importance of recognizing opportunities for personal and professional growth while also knowing when to walk away from what no longer served me.
As I gained more culinary knowledge, I found myself nurturing a small gelato business, which began as a hobby and grew into a labor of love. However, my journey didn't end there. I made the decision to further my education and am now studying to become an engineering electrician.
Looking back, I realized that SHS had paved the way for me to explore my passions and embark on a diverse and enriching journey. Each experience has taught me valuable lessons and has shaped the person I am today. I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and excited about the path ahead.
